Table Games Winners Explode at FireKeepers

(Battle Creek, MI.) May 15, 2016 –FireKeepers Casino Hotel is excited to announce that the Mid-States Poker Tour (MSPT) had its largest prize pool in history outside of Las Vegas. Aaron Massey from Elmwood Park, Illinois, walked away with the top prize of $174,658. The total prize pool reached a record breaking $820,000, at the tournament which concluded on Sunday, May 15.

Satellites and qualifiers for the MSPT event started in late March and ran through May 11. The Main Event took place on Thursday, May 12 and continued through Saturday, May 14.  The Final Event was held on Sunday, May 15 at 11 a.m. With over 800 entries, this surpasses the FireKeepers MSPT record set in spring of 2015 which was 614 entries, making this the single largest MSPT event FireKeepers has seen.

“We are pleased to continue to offer Mid-West players the opportunity to play in a quality tournament series like the Mid-States Poker Tour,” states Lance Allen, Vice President of Table Games at FireKeepers Casino Hotel. “Our seventh hosted tournament saw a dramatic increase in participation, partly due to our high prize pools and excellent guest service offered here at FireKeepers Casino Hotel.”

Massey was the victor out of the 820 entrants. He came to the final table lower in chip count and allowed fellow player and top chip leader at the time, Jason Smith, to knock out his opponents one by one.  Massey brought home the big winner title, along with his six figure winnings, by beating out the nine other contestants at the final table. In the final hand, he outlasted Ron Kruk, by holding an Ace-King to Kruk’s inferior Ace-Queen. He has had previous cash winnings at the World Series of Poker, Heartland Poker Tour East Chicago, and the World Poker Tour at the Borgata.

Our next major MSPT event takes place this fall.  Visit http://www.firekeeperscasino.com/play/poker/ for dates and qualifying events.
