(Battle Creek, Mich.) May 11, 2017 – FireKeepers Casino Hotel is proud to announce that more than 6,000 pounds of non-perishable food items and over $3,000 worth of cash donations were raised for the Kendall Street Pantry during the Pack the Pantry promotions.

The promotions ran throughout the month of April on the FireKeepers campus. Guests had the opportunity to purchase food items at the Pit Stop, the property’s convenience store and gas station, or, they could bring in two or more canned goods to the Red Hot Rewards Club to be entered into a daily drawing for free play. Poker players were also encouraged to get in on the action with the Pack the Pantry tournaments, where $10 from every buy-in went directly to the Kendall Street Pantry.

The Kendall Street Pantry is part of The Fire Hub, FireKeepers newly launched community reinvestment initiative, which houses a restaurant, bakery and food pantry all within the newly renovated, historic Fire Station #4.

The Fire Hub’s most important goal is to give back to the community and this will be accomplished via multiple programs. First, The Kendall Street Pantry, located in the rear section of the building, will work in conjunction with the Food Bank of South Central Michigan, distributing food from shelves to those less fortunate. Secondly, a large greenhouse on nearby tribal land will be utilized to grow food, with the goal of providing a free salad bar for downtown schools in Battle Creek. The third element is the creation of a fund to support local charities, with eighty percent of all restaurant profits providing the monies. The remaining twenty percent of profits will be reinvested in the property.

“When we first talked about the possibility of the Kendall Street Pantry, our friends at FireKeepers assured us that they would always help us to keep the shelves stocked and they more than fulfilled that promise,” said Patty Parker, Executive Director at the Food Bank of South Central Michigan. “Beginning with the amazing grand opening of the Fire Hub and even more still when the Kendall Street Pantry opened soon afterward, the shelves of the food pantry were overflowing with food donations, many of which came from FireKeepers and those who supported the Food Bank through their various activities and food drives. We really could not ask for a better partner in this venture and we look forward to working with FireKeepers, the staff at the Fire Hub and the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi as we strive to solve hunger in our community.”
