Homer A. Mandoka appointed to Michigan Pipeline Safety Advisory Board

(Battle Creek, MI.) December 10, 2015 – The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Pottawatomi (NHBP) and FireKeepers Casino Hotel are proud to announce that Tribal Council Chairman, Homer A. Mandoka has been appointed to the Michigan Pipeline Safety Advisory Board by Governor Rick Snyder.

Mandoka, of Bronson, has served on the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Pottawatomi’s Tribal Council for 13 years and has served as Chairman for five.  Previously, he served on the Bronson, Mi. Police Force for 15 years.

Mandoka is certified in emergency management by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and is passionate about safe petroleum transportation. The NHBPs ancestral homelands include the Kalamazoo river basin where the tribe was an integral part of the Kalamazoo river cleanup following the 2010 British Petroleum (BP) oil spill. Mandoka earned his associate degree in law enforcement from Kellogg Community College. He was also recognized in 2013, as the Tribal Leader of the Year by the Native American Finance Officers Association.

The 16-member Pipeline Safety Advisory Board works to protect Michigan’s environment including its lakes, rivers, and other natural resources. They are charged with advising state agencies on matters related to pipeline routing, construction, operation and maintenance. The board members include industry, environmental and conservation representatives and now a representative from a tribal nation.
