FIREKEEPERS CASINO AND ANTE UP MAGAZINE PRESENT POPULAR POKER TOURNAMENT TO RESTOCK THE SHELVES
Tues. Jan. 15, 2019 – As part of its mission to provide support for the local community, FireKeepers Casino Hotel will participate in "Restock The Shelves," an initiative to restock the shelves of food pantries after the holiday season. Co-presented with Ante Up Magazine and Blue Shark Optics, Restock The Shelves generates cash donations as a part of the entry fee, which will help provide meals for neighbors in need through the Kendall Street Pantry in Battle Creek. The tournament is part of a national initiative that encourages poker venues and players across the country to donate to their local food banks.
During the 12:00 p.m., 2 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. No Limit Texas Hold’Em Tournaments on Monday, Jan. 21 FireKeepers Poker Room will donate the $5 house fee for every tournament registration! Players that donate $5 will receive 500 in bonus chips. A $10 donation will receive 1,500 in bonus chips! For every dollar donated, six meals are provided.
If you are not a tournament player but wish to support this worthy cause, all donations of food or cash will be accepted during the event.
The proceeds from this year’s tournament will benefit the Kendall Street Pantry, a spoke of The Fire Hub, operated by FireKeepers Casino Hotel in conjunction with the Food Bank of South Central Michigan. Last year’s event raised more than $3,000 and provided more than 400 pounds of food for the local food bank, equating to more than 20,000 meals for families in need.
We’re proud to be able to provide the opportunity for poker players to give back,” states Kelley Bailey, FireKeepers Poker and Bingo Manager. “Our team is excited to continue this tradition and looks forward to breaking last year’s record of donations.”
The initiative, now in its fifth year, will see representatives of local food banks collect donations of non-perishable food products. The tournament concept was the brainchild of Ante Up’s editor Scott Long and Blue Shark Optics’ Kerry Karoutsos. It was initially designed as an annual online charity tournament, but the two decided Restock the Shelves doesn’t have to be to be limited to the virtual field, so they chose food banks to join the charitable effort across the country. Almost 300,000 people have been fed through this event to date.
